12/21/10 - New York A few months ago, I noticed an Italian Cafe opened up in my neighborhood. Every time I walk by, I make a note to myself to check it out. Recently after a Pilates class, I decided to finally stop in and grab lunch...
Thank you! |

12/10/2010 - Between this and the Oren’s flagship, the Times Square area just got a major coffee upgrade: A tipster sends in a camera-phone shot of midtown’s new Piccolo Café. It’s the second ecofriendly location of the Gramercy original, which opened in March, and we’re told the menu of pasta, panini, sandwiches, and salads (below) is already packing in workers at the New York Times Building across the street. The diminutive café, built with reclaimed barnyard wood and all that jazz, is the offshoot of an Italian roaster that’s been in business since 1938, and the organic, low-acid coffee comes from beans that are shipped from Trieste in small batches. So what should you order for lunch? CNN’s Soledad O’Brien is a big fan of the mozzarella, tomato, and olive sandwich. (full web page here) Source: Grub Street New York Article by: Daniel Maurer |

If you've been daydreaming about that espresso you had at a counter in a caffe in Italy, wishing you could transport it right here to New York, look no further. Instead, head over to Piccolo Cafe at 3rd Ave and E 15th - or their new location at 274 W 40th - and try out their delicious eco-friendly, imported Italian coffee and espresso. We'll be surprised if you're not instantly transported back to that moment in Italy.
Our favorite part about Piccolo, though, is actually the food. It's as if they read our minds and built a menu around what they found. Every other item has truffles/truffle oil in it, and every third has prosciutto or parmigiano regiano. And none of it is the heavy saucy, fried stuff that you find in most New York Italian restaurants; rather, this green café goes for the fresh, healthy, Mediterranean feel that we love about Italy.
That's probably because the owners - and, indeed, the guy behind the counter - are actually from Italy. Ciao!
